 Jasper Hill

This site is located northeast of Red Rock Canyon, near Last Chance Canyon. From Highway 14 at Hart's Place (GPS coordinates N35° 30.09' W117° 56.83') head east on Last Chance Canyon Road.

You'll cross RedRock-Inyokern Road, and continue eastward two miles (a total of about 4 miles from pavement) to coordinates N35° 27.500' W117° 54.700') where you make a right turn on a trail. Proceed 6-tenths of a mile and you'll see a road heading east, up a hill. There is an open camping site and a fire ring at this location -- and tons of excellent agate and jasper. You're at GPS coordinates N35° 27.202', W117° 55.078'.

While there is a great deal of good material at and around the trail intersection, the best is about halfway up the hill on the right.

Four-wheeling up the hill is well worth the effort. All along, on both sides as well as in the trail, are excellent samples of jasper and agate, some of it in large slabs. At the top of the hill is a spectacular view of Last Chance Canyon.
