Mojave - located on the western edge of the great desert - is a crossroads, with inexpensive motels and fast food restaurants. With the new freeway bypassing the town center, hotels have become an even better deal. On the north end of town is a Raley's supermarket (on hwy 14, near the Motel 6) that is a good place to stock up with supplies.

Mojave is the home of many unique aircraft and the premiere test facility for civilian airplanes. It is also the home of Burt Rutan's aircraft company, Scaled Composites, famous for SpaceShipOne - the world's first privately owned spacecraft.
