 Castle Butte

Petrified Palm & wood, chalcedony, Jasper, Agate, Bloodstone, Opalite

Castle Butte is a popular source of petrified palm wood, chalcedony, Jasper, Opalite, and Agate. There are several collecting areas around Castle Butte, which is a mountain located about 8 miles north-northwest of North Edwards.

To get to the site, take the Clay Mine Road exit at North Edwards (between Mojave and Boron on Route 58). Proceed northward 6.2 miles to the community of Aerial Acres (GPS coordinates 35 05 27 W, 117 47 57 N). At the water tanks, (where you would turn east to get to the onyx mine), proceed north .7 miles, then turn west. Go 2.5 miles, then turn north. At 1.5 miles, you'll be on a hill and at the primary collection area.

On the slopes all the way down to the flatlands, you'll find green bloodstone, petrified wood and palm, jasper, agate, chalcedony, and opalite.
