Onyx

Not far off of highway 58, near the town of North Edwards, colorful banded Onyx can be found at a digging claimed by the Sierra Peloma Rock Club of Newhall, CA. The club allows public access to the diggings, with no fee charged, and only asks that users leave a note telling them how much Onyx they've removed.

To get to the site, at the Clay Mine Road exit at North Edwards (between Mojave and Boron on Route 58). Proceed northward 6.2 miles to the community of Aerial Acres (GPS coordinates 35 05 27 W, 117 47 57 N). At the water tanks, turn right on the dirt road. Proceed eastward two miles, past a small metal shack. At about 4-tenths of a mile from the shack, at GPS coordinates 35 05 28, 117 45 41, turn left (north) on a trail that verges to the northeast.

You'll come to the claim after about 3/tenths of a mile. You are at GPS coordinates 35 05 42, 117 45 13.

This Onyx is colorfully banded, with shades of brown, red, white, black and yellow. It takes a good polish.
